Delk Died Friday In Obici Hospital; Interment At Mill Swamp Thomas Hudson Delk, Jr., 57 of Rt. 3, Smithfield, died Friday, August 12th, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after a long illness. He was the son of Thomas Hudson and Mrs. Jeta Jones Delk and a life long resident of Isle of Wight County. Mr. Delk was a merchant and farmer, member of the Mill Swamp Baptist Church and a member of the Odd Fellows of Smithfield. He is survived by one brother, Robert J. Delk of Smithfield; one nephew, Dan G. Delk of Suffolk; and one neice [sic], Nancy Delk Hall of Smithfield. A funeral service was conducted Sunday, August 14, at Bullock Funeral Home by the Rev. J. Paul Forsythe of Mill Swamp Baptist Church and the Rev. Warren F. Taylor of the Smithfield Baptist Church. Interment was in the Mill Swamp Cemetery. Pallbearers were James M. Carroll, Rodham T. Delk, Carson A. Delk, Charles C. Howell, Willie Jones, John A. Ramsey Jr., Shirley Joyner, and Eugene Robertson. TOMMY DELK busily engaged in his store . . . . TOMMY made many friends when he worked for the HOME TELEPHONE COMPANY . . . . A large amount of rough cut BOARDS stacked near the S-I Highway . . . More Cotton .... If you haven't yet traveled over the SMITHFIELD-IVOR highway we suggest you do so without delay . . . . It is only 20 miles from Smithfield to Ivor and a drive which we feel you will greatly enjoy . . . . . A group on the side of the highway just before reaching IVOR . . . . A new ESSO FILLING STATION and a GULF FILLING STATION at the intersection of the S-I and Suffolk - Wakefield Highway at Ivor . . . . Also a new PACKING PLANT constructed for the IVOR HAM COMPANY.
