All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ BETTY LIGHTFOOT POINDEXTER DEANS BELOVED WINDSOR WOMAN SUCCUMBS Windsor, Nov. 24 - Mrs. Betty Lightfoot Poindexter Deans, 85, prominent in Isle of Wight County, and Eastern Virginia, died this morning at her home here after an illness of several months. Funeral services will be conducted at the grave in family lot in Churchland in Norfolk County Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, by the Rev. J.L. King, of Kenbridge, and the Rev. J. Sydney Cobb, of Cartersville. The funeral procession will leave the home Wednesday at 2 p.m. Mrs. Deans was the widow of the Rev. Dr. Joseph Franklin Deans, and with her husband organized the Windsor Academy in 1879, and this school at which many of the youth of that day were educated flourished for many years. She was born January 25, 1851 in Chesterfield County and was the daughter of Edwin Wilkinson and Fanny Archer Hundley Poindexter. She was a woman of many rare and unusual qualities of mind and heart, and had a large place in the activities for good in her chosen community. Surviving her are a son, Col. Parke P. Deans, chairman of the Virginia Industrial Commission of Richmond, and a daughter, Miss Ethel Louise Deans, of Windsor. "Betty" Elizabeth Lightfoot (POINDEXTER; Mrs. Joseph F.)
