Deans The Rev. Dr. Joseph F. Deans, president of Windsor Academy and one of the trustees of Richmond College, died suddenly yesterday morning at 8 o'clock at his home in Windsor, Va. The death of Dr. Deans, which was wholly unexpected, came as a great shock to his many friends throughout this section of the State. So far as is known, he was apparently in good health on Tuesday. His wife had been spending some time with her sister. Mrs. Woolfork, who is ill in Manchester, and was there when the news of the death came yesterday. She at once hurried home. Throughout the entire State Dr. Deans was well known and much beloved. He was born in Churchland, Va., and was educated at Columbian University and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. At the latter institution, he was a classmate of Professor W.H. Whitsitt. of Richmond College. At one time Dr. Deans was pastor of the Bainbridge Street Church, of Manchester, where he had a most successful pastorate. For more than a score of years he had conducted the Windsor Academy, a school of his own founding, and had served as pastor of churches in the vicinity. He was at times moderator of the Portsmouth Association, and vice- president of the Baptist General Association of Virginia. In recognition of his efficient services as preacher and denomination leader, Richmond College conferred on him in 1807 [sic; 1897] the degree of Doctor of Divinity. Dr. Deans leaves a widow and two children- a son and a daughter. His son, Parke P. Dean, graduated at Richmond College last June with the degree of B.A., and is at present one of the teachers in Windsor Academy. ****************************************************************************** Funeral of Dr. DEANS (Special to the Times-Dispatch.) WINDSOR, VA., February 5.- The funeral of Rev. Dr. J. F. Deans will be held at Churchland Church, Norfolk county, on Friday at 1 o'clock P.M.  Churchland was the home of his youth.  The Windsor Academy will resume exercise on Monday, February 9th, under the charge of the faculty, Professor Parke P. Davis [sic], principal. ****************************************************************************** Funeral of Rev. Dr. J.F. DEANS. (Special to The Times-Dispatch.) WINDSOR, VA., February 6.- The funeral of Rev. Dr. J. F. Deans took place to-day at Churchland, his old home.  The active pall-bearers were R. M. Herrin, John H. Holland, A. J. Stephenson, James Bell, C.F. Joyner, John T. Griffin, W. L. Prince and Harrison Lee. The honorary pall-bearers were delegations from the Odd-Fellows, Good Templars and the Calcotte-Wrenn Camp of Confederate Veterans, while the student body of Windsor Academy formed in a platoon of honor and escorted the remains to the train. The floral designs were numerous and very beautiful. The services were participated in by the leading Baptist ministers of the State. Rev.
