All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CURTIS LEE DARDEN CURTIS LEE DARDEN BURIED MARCH 29 AT UZZELLS CHURCH Curtis Lee Darden, 35, farmer and veteran of World War II of Smithfield, died Sunday morning, March 26, 1961, in the Kecoughtan Veterans Hospital, Hampton, after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, he was a member of Uzzells Methodist Church and its Young Adult Bible Class. He was an active member of Isle of Wight Ruritan Club before his illness. He was a son of William E. Darden and the late Mrs. Alice Pearce Darden. Survivors are his father, Wm. E. Darden; his wife, Mrs. Rita Turner Darden; a daughter Linda May Darden; three sons, Curtis L. Darden, Jr., William R. Darden and Larry G. Darden of the home; five sisters, Mrs. T.C. Lawson of Portsmouth and Mrs. Paul Godwin, Miss Ruth Darden, Mrs. Alton Whitley and Mrs. Cleveland Hall, Jr., of Smithfield and a brother Willis E. Darden of Newport News. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 29 at 2:30 p.m. in Uzzells Church with burial in the church cemetery. The body was taken from the Bullock Funeral Home to the church at 1:30 p.m. Curtis Lee DARDEN, of Smithfield, farmer, WW-II veteran, b. 14 Jul 1925, Smithfield, d. 26 Mar 1961, Hampton, interred in Uzzell's Methodist Church Cemetery (Sect. D*), 29 Mar 1961, "The Smithfield (VA) Times," Vol. 42, No. 13, Mar. 30, 1961 *His parents are buried there also, but are omitted from the list.
