He was the husband of Mrs. Sallie Dilday Darden and the son of Moses and Mrs. Eliza Ann Holland Darden. Mr. Darden was a lifelong resident of the community. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church and a member of the Whaleyville Masonic Lodge, which he had been active in for over 50 years. Surviving, besides his wife, are four sons, Joseph Robert Darden of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Morris Russell Darden of Lumberton, N.C., John Robert Darden and Jethro Darden, both of Carrsville, six daughters, Miss Tag Darden, Miss Jeannette Darden, Mrs. Alice Jean May, and Mrs. Elizabeth Daughtrey, all of Carrsville, Mrs. Audrey Wright of Franklin and Mrs. Margaret Carroll of Lumberton, N.C., one sister, Mrs. Hattie Butler of Holland, and 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Beaver Dam Baptist Church by the pastor, Rev. Edward C. Thornton, Jr. Burial was in the church cemetery.
