Edwin C. Thornton Jr. Burial was in the church cemetery with W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Linwood Duck, Chesley Mumford, Wayland Perry, William Howell, James M. Carr, Ryland Duck, Elwood Gavin, and Willie Lee Bradshaw. Darden, 56, a native of Nansemond County, the husband of Mrs. Dorothy Piland Darden and a son of the late William Thomas and Mrs. Sarah Catherine Holland Darden, died Sunday morning in his home after an illness of several months. He was a farmer and member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Besides his widow, surviving are five sons, Luther Darden of Suffolk, Raymond Darden, Rufus Darden Jr., and Bernard Darden of Carrsville, and Marvin Darden of Franklin; a brother, Goldie Darden of Holland; a sister, Mrs. T.M. Estes of Franklin; and seven grandchildren.
