HENRIETTA MISSOURI ELLIS EDWARDS 

COMET, VA., NEWS

  Mrs. Henrietta M. Edwards, age 80 years, died at her residence on Wednesday, 
August 8th, at 11:45 p.m. after a long illness.  She is survived by two 
daughters, Mrs. W.W. Stallings of Surry and Mrs. Jessie Jones of Smithfield; 
five sons, A.J. Edwards, O.B. Edwards, J.H. Edwards, T.E. Edwards, J.D. 
Edwards and sixteen grandchildren.

  Mrs. Edwards was the oldest member of Bethany Church and also of the Ladies 
Aid Society.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, as she was well 
loved by all, both white and colored.

  Active pallbearers were A.J. Edwards, O.B. Edwards, J.H. Edwards, T.E. 
Edwards, J.D. Edwards, Clarence Stallings and Raney Stallings.  Honorary 
pallbearers: Jessie Jones, S.W. Vey, William Vey, W.R. Cox, Billy Cox, J.A. 
Gwaltney, J. Holleman, J.M. Outland, Maurice Jones, J.A. Scott, Eddie Jones, 
Campton Edwards, Franklin Edwards, N.O. Gwaltney, J.D. Nurney, John Godwin, 
Paul Godwin, I.N. Jones, Elmo Batten, Caleb Batten, Herbert Thacker, J.W. 
Cofer, B.O. Gwaltney.

  Funeral service was conducted by Rev. E.W. Somerville, at the home and 
burial in the old family burying ground.

  The sympathy of all member of Bethany M.E. Church is extended to the 
surviving family of Mrs. Edwards.

  You do not bear this grief alone, 
    Oh may your heart today 
  Find comfort in a sympathy 
    Too deep for words to say.
