Joseph Henry English, Jr., 76, well-known resident of Walters, Isle of Wight County, died at his home Sunday night, September 22, after an illness of many months. He was the husband of Mrs. Fannie Raiford English of Walters and the son of the late Joseph Henry and Mrs. Martha Carr English of Isle of Wight County. He was a member of Mount Carmel Christian Church. Until his retirement several years ago he was employed by the Virginia Highway Department. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. L.H. Howell of Courtland, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. G.C. Crutchfield, pastor of Mount Carmel Christian Church, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Stanley Lowe, Jasper Carr, Lonnie Carr, Frank Johnson, Alfred Howell, John Ballard, Clifton Joyner and James Joyner.
