She was born in Nansemond County, the daughter of the late Lillian Pearl Ellis Savage and Lloyd "Doy" Aubrey Savage. She was predeceased by her husbands, Paul Jordan Garris Sr. and Thomas C. Foster; four sisters; and three brothers. Martha retired after working for more than 20 years as a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of Antioch Church. Martha is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette Garris Pierce and Hersey G. Pierce of Smithfield; son and daugh-ter-in-law, Paul "Jerry" Jordan Garris Jr. and Judy S. Garris of Windsor; step-sons and their wives, Tom E. and Jean Foster of Suffolk, Charles S. and MaryCatherine Foster of Windsor; grandchildren and their spouses, Debi P. Jones, Paula P. Hicks (Joe), Paul J. Garris III (Sherry), Vicki Waddell, Kelly Martone (Jeff), Stephanie Hoesly (Micah), T.C. Foster, and Ann Foster; 15 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held Dec. 31 at Antioch Church in Windsor with the Rev. Mark Habecker officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
