LELIA MAUDE FOWLER Once again the members of the W.M.U. of Beaver Dam Baptist Church have been called on to give up another member. It was July the twelfth, nineteen hundred and forty-nine that Mrs. Lelia Maude Fowler answered the call of her Heavenly Father. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J. C. Johnson, and the Misses Miriam and Jessie Fowler, and three step- children, Mr. P.H. Fowler, Mrs. E.T. Sutherlin, and Miss Thelma Fowler. The daughter of the late Dawson and Martha Emily Worrell Williams of Southampton County, she was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church for many years and of its Woman's Missionary Society. Surviving her are three daughters, Misses Miriam, Jesse and Thelma Fowler of Carrsville; two stepdaughters, Mrs. J.C. Johnson of Suffolk and Mrs. E.T. Sutherlin of Danville; one stepson, Patrick H. Fowler of Danville; five grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Mabel [sic; Mable] Butler of Franklin. Funeral services for Mrs. Fowler were from Beaver Dam Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member, by her Pastor, the Rev. E. C. Thornton, Jr. Mrs. William West sang "Abide With Me," accompanied by Miss Mary Eley. The Church Choir then sang "In the Garden". Mrs. Fowler was active in the work of her Church as long as her health would permit. On the last Sunday she was able to attend Sunday School, her teacher welcomed her to class once again. She replied, "I prayed so hard that God would give me the strength that I might attend once more." Her Christian life is being relived and her ideals are being realized in the lives of her children in their unselfish devotion to Christ's Church. "Though dark our path, and sad our lot, Let us be still, and murmur not; O breathe the prayer divinely taught, 'Thy will be done.' What though in lonely grief we sigh, For friends beloved, no longer nigh, Submissive still would we reply, 'Thy will be done.' Renew our will from day to day; Blend it with Thine, and take away All that now makes hard to say, 'Thy will be done.'" Be it therefore resolved that: First: We bow in humble submission to God's will, feeling that our loss is her gain. Second: We extend to her loved ones our deepest sympathy, reminding them that our Heavenly Father never places more grief upon His children than they are able to bear. Third: A copy of these resolutions be sent to the family, a copy to be spread on the minutes of our W. M. U. and a copy be sent to the RELIGIOUS HERALD for publication. Respectfully submitted, MRS. ANNIE B. ROSE, MRS. CLYDE CUTHINS, [sic; CUTCHINS] MRS. JOHN BRAYCE, Chairman. Carrsville, Va.
