Windsor, Va. Jan. 3 - Mr. John M. Gay, one of the most esteemed and honored citizens of this community, died at his home near this place last night, in the 63rd year of his age. Mr. Gay had been sick just three weeks, and the end came as a result of a severe attack of pneumonia. Deceased had been three times married, leaving a widow and eight children, all of which are about grown, the youngest being seventeen and several grandchildren. Mr. Gay was a very successful business man, and had by his shrewd and keen business capacity, accumulated an estate valued at about $30,000. He was kind hearted and of a generous disposition; a good neighbor, honored citizens, kind and tender father and faithful and devoted husband. He was genial in disposition, and had a host of friends. He will be sadly missed in the community. Funeral and burial tomorrow (Wednesday) evening from Antioch Christian Church at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Dr. Staley and Rev. H.H. Butler, both of Suffolk. Peace to his ashes. WINDSOR, VA., November 23. - (Special.) - The barn and stables of Mr. John M. Gay, a prosperous farmer and lumberman near this place, containing a large lot of fodder and hay, together with a complete set of farming-implements, was totally destroyed by fire last night about 9 o'clock. Mr. Gay had not retired, but for the timely discovery of the fire about twenty head of stock, consisting of horses and mules, would have been consumed. The origin of the fire is not known. The loss is estimated at $1,500, partly covered by insurance.
