MRS. ROXANNA T. GAY 

  Mrs. Roxanna Turner Gay, 95, a resident of 310 S. Main St., died at 12:35 
p.m. Sunday in a Suffolk nursing home. 

  A native of Isle of Wight County, she was a daughter of William L. and Mrs. 
Dinwiddie Howell Turner. 

  She was a member of Suffolk Christian Church, the West Memorial Bible Class 
and Woman's Fellowship of the church.  She was also the oldest member of Sinai 
Chapter 18, Order of Eastern Star. 

  Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Texanna Gay Williams of Suffolk; a son, 
William S. Gay Jr. of Blacksburg; a brother, Z. Turner of Suffolk; six 
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. 

  A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in I.O. Hill & Company 
Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert B. Marr.  Burial will be in Antioch Christian 
Church Cemetery, Isle of Wight County.

Her son's Sons of the American Revolution application, 14 Feb 1951, 
   gives his mother as b. 23 Mar 1874. 

Her parents & paternal grandparents are buried in the TURNER family 
   cemetery on Harry Wilson Rd.  {IWCHS GSSTF #34} 

Her maternal grandparents, Capt. Henry P. & Sarah/Susan (TAYLOR) HOWELL, 
   are buried in Portlock Cemetery, Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth.

Her brother Zechariah TURNER (1887 - 1979), buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, 
   Suffolk, had a cenotaph to their parents & brothers, set in the approach 
   to his grave - Block D, Lot 5.

Their father was a Confederate veteran, rising from private to 1st sergeant 
   in Co. E, 9th VA Infantry.  He was captured 1 Apr 1865 at Five Forks. 

Their maternal grandfather (1811 - 1884) was also a Confederate veteran, 
   serving as captain of Co. E, 9th VA Infantry, 27 May - 28 Nov 1861.
