All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Sam Tilden Gay Succumbs at 72 Sam Tilden Gay, 72, a resident and merchant of Carrsville for the past 12 years, died this morning in a Portsmouth hospital after an illness of a few months. Mr. Gay was a former resident of Suffolk and for a number of years was president of the American Lumber Corporation here. A native of Isle of Wight County, he was the son of the late Jerry and Mary Eley Gay. He was a member of the Holland Christian Church. Besides his wife*, Mrs. Ada Lorene Gay, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. M.E. Williams of Suffolk; one son, W.S. Gay of Blacksburg; one brother, C.P. Gay of Emporia; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the W.J.M. Holland Funeral Home in Franklin, where services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The services will be conducted by Dr. W.B. O'Neal, with interment at Antioch Christian Church cemetery in Isle of Wight County. [photo, captioned:] SAM T.
