Obituaries

John Godwin Jr.

  John Godwin Jr., age 91, of Route 3, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, in The 
Smithfield Home. 

  Mr. Godwin, a native of Isle of Wight County, was a retired farmer. 
He was a member of Uzzell Methodist Church, the Men's Bible Class and 
the Isle of Wight Ruritan Club.  He was the son of the late John and 
Evelyn Mathews Godwin. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lell Cox Godwin, 
one daughter: Mrs. Florence G. Bobbins, Smithfield; one sister: Mrs. 
Louise G. Poole, Smithfield; one brother: Davis Lee Godwin, Windsor; 
three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. 

  Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 13, 1963, at 2 p.m. at Uzzell 
Methodist Church with the Rev. John B. McCormick and Rev. Robert F. 
Cofield, Jr. officiating. 

  Interment was in Uzzell Church Cemetery. 

  The family request memorial donations may be made to the Uzzell Church 
Cemetery Fund, Route 1 Box 748, Smithfield, Virginia 23430. 

  Pallbearers were Charles Taylor Darden, G. Newton Goodrich, Dwight Doggett, 
Ralph Godwin, Jr., Thomas L. Darden, James Council.  Honorary Pallbearers 
were: John Darden, Major Manning, Tom Lawson and Randall Edwards. 

  Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
