GWALTNEY, 70, OF I-WIGHT COUNTY BURIED SATURDAY George Ackie Gwaltney, 70, retired farmer and merchant, died suddenly Thursday at his home near Smithfield, after several months of illness. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie Stallings Gwaltney; three daughters, Mrs. P.G. West, Surry, Mrs. S.V. Hoyle, Denbigh, Mrs. J.F. Judkins, Surry; three sons, George A. Jr., of Elberon, James J., Tabb, Will M., Surry and nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. T.O. Gwaltney, Wakefield, Mrs. J.T. Stalling, Chuckatuck, Mrs. L.E. Keppel, of Richmond; and three brothers, Dr. J.D. Gwaltney of Richmond, Dr. L.L. Gwaltney, Birmingham, Ala. and Avie Gwaltney of Hampton. Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the home with burial services in the Mill Swamp Cemetery, Isle of Wight County with the Rev. L.E. Holzbach officiating.
