IDA CAROLINE BATTEN GWALTNEY 

MRS. J.J. GWALTNEY BURIED SUNDAY IN NEWPORT NEWS, VA. 

  Mrs. Ida Caroline Gwaltney, of Moss Oak Avenue, Newport News, widow of 
Joseph J. Gwaltney, died Friday, January 28, 1956 at Mary Immaculate Hospital. 
She had been in failing health for several years.

  Surviving her are five sons, Harry C. Gwaltney, Jennings J. Gwaltney, W. 
Carey Gwaltney, all of Newport News, C. Scott Gwaltney of Warwick and Robert 
C. Gwaltney of Hampton; a daughter, Mrs. E.J. Fitzgerald of Newport News; 12 
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

  A native of Isle of Wight County, Mrs. Gwaltney had been a resident of 
Newport News for the past 40 years.  She was a member of the 24th Street 
Church of Christ.

  Funeral services were held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. from the Peninsula Funeral 
Home with Rev. Carl A. Matthews conducting assisted by Rev. Samuel M. Saunders.

  Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
