GWALTNEY, 50* DIES AT WINDSOR Was Long Prominent Banker and Member of County School Board Jesse H. Gwaltney, 56*, one of Isle of Wight's most prominent and beloved citizens, died Sunday night at his home near Windsor, after an illness of several months. Mr. Gwaltney was a director of the Farmers' Bank of Windsor, a charter member of the Windsor Ruritan Club, a member of the Isle of Wight school board, member of the Windsor Christian Church, and a member of Purdie Lodge 170, A.F. & A.M. He was widely known though-out the county for his activity in charitable, social and civic work. Surviving Mr. Gwaltney are his wife, Mrs. Bettie Cleopas [sic; Clee*] Gwaltney and 11 children; J.J. Gwaltney, of Emporia; Miss Mildred Gwaltney, of Norfolk; Mrs. B.K. Johnson of Windsor; Misses Martha, Eloise, Dorothy Gwaltney and Henry, Thomas, Robert and William Gwaltney, all of Windsor; a sister, Mrs. A.L. Brockwell, of Newport News; three brothers, W.H. Gwaltney of Smithfield; A.F. Gwaltney of Newport News; J.T. Gwaltney of Hopewell, and two grandchildren, Betty Cox Gwaltney and Bruce K. Johnson, Jr. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, and burial took place in Antioch Cemetery. Active pallbearers were W.H. Johnson, Lorenzo Bailey, C.E. Fulgham, S.T. Holland, W.E. Garrison, J. Frank Lawrence, R.R. Rhodes and L.T. Hall. Friends of the family served a honorary pallbearers.
