All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Paul Jordan "Jerry" Garris Jr. Paul "Jerry" Jordan Garris, Jr., 67, born November 18, 1947 to the late Paul Jordan Garris, Sr. and Martha Savage Foster, lived an abundant, faithful life until he was called home to be with his Heavenly Father April 24, 2015. Jerry is survived by Judith "Judy" Simpson Garris, his devoted wife of 46 years. He was blessed with a son and a daughter-in-law, Paul Jordan, III and Sherry Garris, who brought joy to him by having four wonderful grandchildren, Kaylee, Noah, Alivia, and Jenna. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Hersey Pierce; brother Tom Foster and his wife, Jean; and brother Charles Foster and his wife, Mary Catherine. He was also blessed with several brothers-in-law and their wives, Bobby and Sandra Simpson, Donnie and Sharon Simpson and the late Jimmy Simpson and his wife Becky. Jerry is also survived by many nieces and nephews. For many years, Jerry worked hard to provide for his family and was able to retire after 43 years at Newport News Shipbuilding, where he was an Assistant Clerk and earned his status as a Master Shipbuilder. Jerry was known by his grandchildren as PeepPop, to the children at Antioch Church as the Candy Man, and to those at Tidewater Motorcycles as the Onion Man; but, above all, he will always be known as a Child of the King. He was a dedicated usher and member of the Missions Committee at Antioch Church. Jerry was an avid fisherman, who liked to teach others his fishing tips. He also enjoyed being outdoors and riding motorcycles, especially with his son, other family, and friends. Jerry is now at rest, enjoying his eternal life with his Lord and Savior. His family is comforted by his awesome testimony of faith and his desire for everyone to love one another. Jerry did not look at death as a time to say goodbye, but rather, in his simple words, "I'll see you later." His funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 27, at Antioch Church with Reverend Lindsay Poteat, Reverend Mark Habecker, and Associate Pastor Chris Cherry officiating. The burial will be at the Antioch Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26. It was Jerry's wish for donations to be made to Antioch Church Missions, P.O. Box 36, Windsor, Virginia 23487 in lieu of flowers. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
