Robert Gardner 

  Robert Gardner, 809 Pretlow Street, Franklin, died Friday in Lee [sic; 
Leigh] Memorial Hospital. 

  He was a native of Nansemond County and had spent most of his life in the 
Franklin area.  Gardner retired from the Virginia Department of Highways after 
43 years.  He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.  He was the husband 
of Mrs. Margarett Anna Uzzell Gardner. 

  Besides his wife surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Annie May Decker of 
Franklin; three sisters, Mrs. F.E. Turner and Miss Susie Gardner, both of 
Ivor, and Mrs. Mary Joyner of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Thomas Whitfield Jr. 
of Richmond, and William M. Whitfield of Newport News. 

  A funeral service will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons 
Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. R.E. Brittle and the Rev. Riddick Pearce. 
Burial will be Antioch Church Cemetery.
