GARNER, 74, NATIVE I-W COUNTY BURIED MONDAY Newport News - Basel [sic; Basil] Wood Garner, 74, died Saturday afternoon at 2:45 in Elizabeth Buxton hospital after an illness of 11 months. Mr. Garner came here from Smithfield 18 years ago. He had been employed by the Dawn Laundry. He is survived by one son, Merritt Woodrow Garner and a daughter, Miss Eva Mae Garner, of this city; one brother, F.L. Garner of Isle of Wight County, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Garner was a member of Trinity Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Rouse Funeral Chapel, conducted by Dr. Bernard Lipscomb, pastor of Trinity Methodist church. The body was sent to Uzzell's Methodist Church in Isle of Wight County, where burial services were conducted by the Rev. E.W. Rawlings.
