JOSEPH WILLIAM Smithfield, June 3 - The funeral of Colonel Joseph William Holloway, prominent citizen of Smithfield and president of the Home Telephone Company of Smithfield and Isle of Wright County, who died at 3 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at Buxton Hospital, Newport news, took place Friday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the Holloway home in Smithfield.     Services were conducted by the Rev. F.G. Oglesby, pastor of Trinity M.E. Church, Smithfield, assisted by the Rev. L.F. Paulette of Smithfield and the Rev. William A. Wright of Blackstone. ILL LONG TIME    Colonel Holloway, who was 68 years of age, had been in declining health for the past two years.  A week ago he suffered a relapse and was carried to the Buxton Hospital at Newport News.    He was a native of Surry County but long a resident of Isle of Wight and Smithfield and had been president and a manager of the telephone company for the past 35 years.  In addition to his business interests he took an active part in the political, religious and social life of his county and section.     He is survived by his widow; three sons, J.W. Holloway, Jr. of Chicago; T.M. Holloway of Detroit; W.J. Holloway of Richmond; one daughter, Miss Emily Holloway of Richmond; and three grandchildren.  A brother, E.E. Holloway, and a sister, Mrs. T.L. Dashiell, both of Smithfield, also survive.    Interment was made in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Smithfield.     Colonel Holloway was a member of the staff of Governor William Hodges Mann. ****************************************************************************** COL. JOSEPH WILLIAM HOLLOWAY BELOVED CITIZEN OF ISLE OF WIGHT DIES IN HOSPITAL Col. Joseph William Holloway Succumbs In Newport News After Long Illness Col. Joseph William Holloway, 68, one of the most prominent and beloved citizens of Isle of Wight County, died Thursday morning, May 30th at 3 o'clock at Buxton Hospital, Newport News, after several months of failing health and two weeks of critical illness. Colonel Holloway was president and general manager of the Home Telephone Company, organized 35 years ago, and serving a part of Nansemond, Isle of Wight and Surry counties. His many courtesies to the public whom he served had made his name a household word. He was a native of Surry County, and was a member of and former steward of Trinity Methodist Church, and was for many years at the head of the Isle of Wight Sunday School Association. He was active in the political life on the county, and in its civic and social activities. He was also a member of Smithfield Lodge, A.F. & A.M. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Mary Emily Holloway; three sons, J.W. Holloway, Jr., of Chicago, Ill.; T.M. Holloway and W.J. Holloway of Richmond, and a daughter, Miss Emily Holloway, also if Richmond; three grandchildren, one brother E.E. Holloway, of Benns Church and a sister, Mrs. T.L. DeShields, of Smithfield. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the home in Smithfield, and were attended by a large gathering of friends from Smithfield and the vicinity, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Norfolk and Richmond and Newport News. The services were conducted by the Rev. F.B. Oglesby, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. L.R. Paulette, pastor of Smithfield Baptist Church and the Rev. W.A. Wright, of Blackstone. There were many handsome floral offerings, sent by organizations and friends. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were D.W. Chapman, P.D. Gwaltney, III, James T. Cox, H.B. Fold, W.V. Wilson, Jr., G.W. Wright, W.H. Sykes and C.S. Betts. Friends of the family served as honorary pallbearers. Col.
