Holland, 79, of Windsor Died in Boating Accident Herbert Hilton Holland, 79, of Windsor, a retired farmer, died in a boating accident Monday afternoon September 4, 1961, while he fished with a companion in Joyner's Pond in Isle of Wight County near Five Forks. Sheriff Harold C. Taylor said Mr. Holland fell from the boat. He grabbed the side of the boat and told his companions to row to shore, Taylor said. In shallow water, Holland climbed back into the boat, then collapsed and died. Taylor said Holland's death was classified as accidental. A funeral service was held at the R.W. Baker Funeral Home in Suffolk Wednesday at 4 P.M. Burial was in Oakland Church Cemetery. He was a son of James Richard Holland and Sallie Dixon Holland of Nansemond County and a member of Woodland Methodist Church and the Isle of Wight Ruritan Club. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Bessie Mae Holland; a daughter, Mrs. Ann Holland Worrell of Five Forks; two sons, Richard Corbell Holland of Red Point Heights, Smithfield, and James Herbert Holland of Five Forks; three step- children, Mrs. Henley E. Williams of Nansemond County, Willie J. Griffin of Wakefield; and Edward Griffin of Windsor; three sisters, Mrs. E.E. Wagner, Mrs. R.L. Wagner and Mrs Maggie Holland of Suffolk; and nine grandchildren. D.Cert. 23898 (Dist. 146 #51) gives died of accidental drowning. His father (1836 - 1918) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. F, 9th VA Infantry.
