Paul Frost, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial will be in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery, Isle of Wight. Mr. Holland, 62, of Smithfield, died Monday in a Richmond hospital after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, he was a foreman at Smithfield Packing Co. and a member of Antioch Christian Church. He was a son of Thomas P. and Mrs. Hattie Johnson Holland*. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bertie Johnson Holland; a daughter, Mrs. William L. Palmer of Suffolk; two sons, Rufus L. Holland of the Army in Germany and James R. Holland of Smithfield; two sisters, Mrs. John Robert Ellis and Mrs. Clarence H. Duck Sr. of Smithfield; and four grandchildren. ****************************************************************************** Funeral Service Thursday For R. R. They are also buried at Antioch. HOLLAND, d. 11 Jun 1913, and was buried in Nansemond Co. [D.Cert. 14881 (Cypress #301)] Thomas P. & Ernest R. HOLLAND were sons of Richard Goodman & Sophia Jane (ODOM) HOLLAND, who m. 8 Nov 1866 in Nansemond Co. Richard was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. K, 41st VA Infantry. He was shot in the left breast and bayonetted in the mouth, losing two teeth, at the Battle of the Crater, 30 Jul 1864. He farmed in Isle of Wight Co., Gates Co., NC, & Nansemond Co. He applied for a pension 25 May 1900, with the bullet still in his body, causing much pain & shortness of breath.
