L.J. HILLYER 

  RESCUE - Learoy Johnson Hillyer, 89, died Monday in a Newport News hospital 
after a brief illness. 

  A lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, he was a retired oysterman and 
fisherman.  He was the husband of the late Mrs. Vernie Herrin Hillyer and a 
son of Peter and Mrs. Hattie Johnson Hillyer. 

  He was a member of Riverview Methodist Church. 

  Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Lucy H. Linck of Newport News; two 
stepdaughters, Mrs. Vernie H. Harmon of Richmond and Mrs. L.L. Minga of 
Rescue; two stepsons, P. Woolford Herrin of Portsmouth and Judson C. Herrin 
of Richmond; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

  The body was taken to Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield.  A funeral service 
will held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Riverview Methodist Church, Rescue, by the 
Rev. H.A. White and the Rev. Paul R. Best.  Burial will be in the church 
cemetery.  The body will be in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

   is buried with her first husband in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.
