Harrison, badly beaten over the head by a heavy iron bar, was discovered around 1:15 o’clock last Sunday morning by his son, who went to the bakery at the insistence of Mrs. Harrison. The elder Harrison had gone on duty at the bakery about 6 o’clock Sunday evening, as was his custom. About 7:30 p.m. he telephoned his wife at their residence on W. 34th Street, but broke off the conversation after telling her he heard someone at the door. He promised to call again. After waiting a reasonable time for the call. Mrs. Harrison attempted to telephone her husband at the bakery, but got no answer. She continued to call for several hours without success. About 1:15 a.m. the watchman’s son became alarmed and went to the bakery, but could not summon his father to the door. Forcing his way through a side window, he found Harrison lying unconscious in a room in which sugar was stored. The iron bar was nearby. The injured man was taken to Norfolk General Hospital, where he was admitted for a fractured skull, multiple lacerations of the scalp, and shock. He died about eight hours later. Harrison, a native of this county, had been a resident of Norfolk for fifteen years. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Isle of Wight County. About forty years ago, he lived with his parents and brothers in the cottage on Norfleet Street now numbered 503. The Harrisons moved from here to the Walters community many years ago. If memory is not at fault, Charles Harrison, father of the deceased, at one time had a store in a frame building back of the store now occupied by Soble’s Department Store and sold fish and ice, access to this store was by way of an alley on which now stands the building used by W.F. Hart for his jewelry store. Besides his wife, Mrs. Josie Harrison, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. R.T. Kent of Long Island, N.Y., and Miss Mary Ann Harrison of Norfolk; four sons, Fenton Wallace Harrison of Franklin, and Joseph C., Robert E. and William H. Harrison, Jr., of Norfolk; and two brothers R.T. Harrison of Newport News and J.O. Harrison of Norfolk. Funeral services for Mr. Harrison were conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home in Norfolk on Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock by the Rev. Kenneth E. Burke, pastor of the Burrows Memorial Baptist Church, and the Rev. A.B. Blount, pastor of the Kempsville Baptist Church. Burial was in the cemetery at Beaver Dam Church in Isle of Wight County.
