All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MATTIE BRACEY HORTON Mrs. Mattie Bracey Horton, 28, wife of Edward Horton, died at her home in Windsor this morning at about 5 o’clock. Although she had been in failing health for some months, her death was unexpected at the time. Mrs. Horton was the daughter of the late Jacob H. and Mrs. Sarah Garrison Bracey of the Franklin community. Besides her husband she is survived by a sister, Mrs. L.A. Whitley of Franklin, and six brothers, Edward, LeRoy and James Bracey of Franklin; Robert Bracey of Dendron and Martin and Lee Bracey of Norfolk. Mrs. Horton was a member of Franklin Congregational Church and had been organist of the church for more than five years prior to her marriage and moving to Windsor. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the Franklin Congregational Christian Church by Dr. Elwood W. Jones; assisted by the Rev. H.E. Crutchfield of Windsor. Burial will take place in Poplar Spring Cemetery here. ****************************************************************************** Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Bracey Horton, wife of Edward Horton of Windsor, who died last Friday morning, were conducted last Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock from the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, of which she was a member and had been organist for several years. The rites were conducted by the pastor, Dr. Elwood W. Jones, assisted by the Rev. H. E. Crutchfield of Windsor Christian Church, and the Rev. J. L. Carrol of Windsor Baptist Church. The choir of the church sang "Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross," followed by prayer and scripture reading by Mr. Crutchfield and Mr. Carrol. A poem was read by Dr. Jones, the choir singing as a closing song "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." The casket was covered with a pall of pink rose buds and lilies, interment taking place in Poplar Spring Cemetery here with the following pallbearers: Garland Vaughan, Dr. Darden W. Jones, Robert A. Vaughan, Samuel Bradshaw, T. Hayes Holland, Ezra Gray, John Panton and Percy Bunch.
