KATE HEARN TO BE BURIED TODAY Mrs. Kate Darden Hearn, aged 55, died at her home near Smithfield at 9:30 o'clock. Mrs. Hearn was the widow of W.B. Hearn of Isle of Wight County. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Lettie Lewis of Suffolk and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the residence, near Smithfield, Thursday morning at 11 o'clock, with the Rev. Mr. Summerville, officiating. Burial was in Uzzells churchyard. James T. Joyner m. 1859 (Gates Co., NC) Edith E. "Karoon"/"Karson". (FamilySearch.org "North Carolina Marriages") James may be identical with the James T. Joyner who served in 1862 in Co. E/6th Va. Inf., CSA, but he does not appear in Balfour's "Franklin and Southampton County in the Civil War," or on our list of Nansemond Co. Confederate veterans, and he was not a pensioner. James may be the son of William & Eliza Joyner. (1850 Census - Nottoway P'sh, Southampton Co. - sheet 334b, dwl/fam 111) Edith (d. 1884) was the dt/o Pelege & Margaret D. (BRYANT) CAROON, who are buried in a CAROON family cemetery on Statesville Rd., Southampton Co.
