The widow of the late George Marion Jones, she has been a lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County. She was a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter Mrs. Theresa Jones Robinson of Smithfield; one sister, Mrs. Charlie Thomas of Newport News; her stepmother, Mrs. Virginia Gale of Chicago; two half-sisters, Mrs. C.D. Strouse of Norfolk and Mrs. A.J. Laberty of Chicago; one half-brother, Willie V. Gale of Smithfield and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Bullock Funeral Home chapel Sunday at 3 P.M. conducted by the Rev. L.F. Paulette, pastor of the Smithfield Baptist Church. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were C.D. Haverty, H.C. Haverty, W.H. Gale, John I. Cofer Jr., Gordon E. Barlow, J. Ray Barlow, R. Franklin Edwards and R.R. Bowden. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Smithfield I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodges. Mattie Frances (GALE; Mrs. G. I, 3rd VA Infantry, CSA. He married her mother, Antelia E. PITMAN (ca. 1850 - 1883), daughter of W.H. & M. PITMAN, 16 Feb 1871 in Surry Co. Her step-mother, Virginia "Jennie" (PRUDEN) GALE, is buried in St. Luke's Memorial Park, Benns Church. (IWCHS GSSTF #18) Her obit is posted with Find a Grave Mem. #187252442.
