All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Alfred Johnson Succumbs at 57 Alfred Joseph Johnson, Sr., 57, a resident at Holland, died this morning at the Louise Obici Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was the son of the late Enos Luther and Emma Corbitt Johnson, of Nansemond County. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dottie Langford [sic; Lankford] Johnson, of Holland; two daughters, Mrs. H.H. Byrd, Jr.; Mrs. Jack Holland, of Holland; three sons, Randolph Johnson, of Whaleyville; Alfred Joseph Johnson, Jr., of Holland; and Edward A. Johnson, of Suffolk; a sister, Mrs. L.L. Worrell, of Nansemond County; three brothers, T.H. Johnson, of Suffolk; H.C. Johnson, of Nansemond County and E.A. Johnson, of Lynchburg; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home, where it will remain until Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., at which time it will be taken to the Beaver Dam Baptist Church to lie in state [until] the funeral hour, which is at 3 p.m. The Rev. Edward Thornton, church pastor, will conduct the services. Interment will follow in the hurch cemetery.
