BIRDIE MAE EDWARDS JOHNSON

   Carrsville - A funeral service for Mrs. Birdie Edwards Johnson was conducted 
at 2 p.m. Monday in Beaver Dam Baptist Church by the Rev. Edwin C. Thornton Jr. 
Burial was in the church cemetery with W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home, 
Franklin, in charge.

   Pallbearers were Dewitt Wright, John E. Rose Jr., J.C. Rose Jr., Jasper 
Daughtrey, Hunter Daughtrey, Jarvis Howell, Claude Hedgepeth and Clarence 
Daughtrey.

   Mrs. Johnson, 76, died Saturday afternoon in her home.

   A native of Sussex County, she was a daughter of Winfield and Mrs. Mary 
Temple Edwards and the widow of Jesse Fitzhugh Johnson.

   She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Women’s Missionary Union, and 
Faithful Workers Class.

   She is survived by three sons, Jesse J. Johnson of Ahoskie, N.C., and Elliott 
L. Johnson and Walter H. Johnson of Carrsville; three brothers, Willie Edwards 
and Daniel Edwards of Petersburg and Curtis L. Edwards of Portsmouth; two 
sisters, Mrs. T.R. Garrett and Mrs. P.A. Warren of Petersburg; five 
grandchildren.
