He was the husband of Mrs. Margaret Adell Cunningham Johnson of Carrsville, and the son of Mrs. Naomi [sic; Nonie*] Fuller Johnson and the late Herbert Johnson of Southampton County. He was a member of the Capron Baptist Church, and an employee of St. Regis Paper Company at Franklin. In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by a son, Herbert Moncure Johnson, Jr., and two daughters, Misses Margaret Jean and Mary Ann Johnson, all of Carrsville; eight brothers, John, Edward, Robert, Willie, Dallas, David, Josh and Otis Johnson, all of Southampton County; and one sister; Mrs. Fannie J. Drake, also of Southampton County. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by Rev. Edwin C. Thornton, pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and Rev. William W. Stennett, pastor of the Capron Baptist Church. Burial was in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Roy Howard, James A. Surace, Eldridge Pope, Thomas Matthews, John E. Rose, Jr., George Hedgepeth, Emmett Applewhite and Leon O’Clair.
