GEORGE HERBERT JOHNSON

   ZUNI - George Herbert Johnson, 88, died Saturday night in a Newport News 
hospital after a long illness.

   A native of Southampton County, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William 
Johnson and was a retired farmer.  He lived in Zuni community the last 30 
years and was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church.

   Surviving is a brother, Peter Johnson of Ridgecrest, N.C.

   A funeral service was held at Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, today 
(Monday) at 2 p.m. by the Rev. J.W. Horne, pastor of Tucker Swamp Baptist 
Church, with burial in Windsor Cemetery.

Additional information: 
Herbert's wife Ida Mary (1874-1907) was the daughter of Sylvester James 
{1837-1915} - one of seven ROBERTS brothers who fought for the Confederacy - 
and Lucy Ann (FULGHAM) {1842-1925}.
