Johnson Succumbs at 80 Dr. Isaac Walter Johnson, 80, a resident of 201 Linden Avenue, died at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital at 2:55 a.m. today after a short illness. He was the son of the late Julius Caesar Johnson and the late Georgianna Rhodes Johnson of Isle of Wight County. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Bertie Eleanor Johnson; one brother, O.W. Johnson of Orlando, Florida; a sister, Miss Essie Johnson of Suffolk; two nephews, Riland E. Johnson of Greensboro, N.C., and David R. Johnson, of Yanceyville, N.C.; two nieces, Mrs. W.D. Good of Miami Beach, Florida, and Mrs. J.W. Garth, III, of Charlottesville. Also four great nephews and three great nieces. Dr. Johnson was a minister in the Congregational Christian Church 57 years, 51 of which he served the Oakland Christian Church. He served the Liberty Springs [sic; Spring] Christian Church for 46 years, the Berea Christian Church at Driver for 42 years. He was an original stockholder of the Bank of Whaleyville, elected director of the bank in 1908, vice president in 1923 and president in 1944, a position he held to the time of his death. He was also chairman of the Board of Directors. Dr. Johnson, a stockholder of the Farmer's Bank in Suffolk, was elected chairman of the stockholders' meeting, a position he has held for several years. Dr. Johnson was a graduate of Elon College, N.C., in the class of 1898 and had served on the Board of Directors of Elon College. He had been secretary of the Southern Christian Convention for 30 years and has served as pastor emeritus of the Oakland, Liberty Springs and Berea Christian Churches. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Suffolk Christian Church. The Rev. George D. Alley, pastor, will officiate, assisted by Dr. H.S. Hardcastle, pastor of Oakland Christian Church, and Dr. Jesse H. Dollar, pastor of Liberty Springs Christian Church. The body will remain at the R.W. Baker and Company Funeral Home until 2:45 Thursday afternoon. ****************************************************************************** [photo, captioned:] DR. I. W. Alley, pastor, officiated, assisted by Dr. H.S. Hardcastle, pastor of Oakland and Berea Christian Churches, and Dr. Jesse H. Dollar, pastor of Liberty Springs [sic; Spring] Christian Church. Rev. O.D. Poythress, accompanied by David Brown Harrell, sang "How Firm A Foundation," "My Jesus, I Love Thee" and "When I Look Into His Face." Active pallbearers were J.C. Matthews, Sr., Russell Bradford, Miles [sic; Mills] E. Godwin, Jr., Oliver W. Newman, G. O'Berry and R. Emmett Rogers. All are deacons from Oakland, Berea and Liberty Springs Christian Churches. The pall was of red carnations, Easter lilies, white pom-poms and babies breath. Burial was in Whaleyville Cemetery. Rev.
