b. circa 1833, Isle of Wight Co., d. 25 Feb 1897, 
interred in the JOHNSON family cemetery*, 27 Feb 1897,

The Isle of Wight County Historical Society {IWCHS} Grave Site Survey Task 
   Force {GSSTF} index gives JOHNSON family cemetery, Mill Creek Rd., but 
   report #30 is headed Old Carolina Rd.  His date of death given as 
   25 Feb 1807:

Joseph, son of Edward R. & Mary Ann, m. "Chris" Christina HINES, 
   daughter of John & Martha HINES, 10 Jan 1861, in Southampton Co. 
   (Southampton Co. M.Reg. {BVS copy} 1861 p. 141 #6; 
    M.Reg. 1853-72, p. 10 #6; MB1:82) 

He served in Co. E, 9th VA Infantry, rising to First Sergeant 1 Mar 1864.
