Born Oct. 11, 1919, in Zuni, Ida was the daughter of the late Jesse Elias and Mary Emma Turner Thorne. Ida was a 1938 graduate of Windsor High School and had formerly worked as a home-sitter for the elderly in the area, at Wright's Bar-be-cue, at the Zuni Presbyterian School near Zuni and the Windsor Elementary School. She was an active member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church and the Young at Heart Club. Ida was an expert seamstress in her younger years and had a green thumb as evidenced by her home full of thriving plants. She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte L. Shafer of Windsor; a son, Robert Goode Joyner of Wakefield; four grandchildren, Mike Luter, Travis Luter, Steve Joyner and Debbie Arrington; and six great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jethro Goode Joyner; a daughter, Deborah Ann Joyner; and a brother, Jesse Thorne. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Zuni, by the Rev. Doug Van Niel. Burial will follow in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery near Windsor. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, and at other times at the residence of Mike Luter, 14 N. Court St., Windsor, Va.
