Joyner of Isle of Wight County, died Saturday morning, August 23, in Raiford Memorial Hospital. A few weeks ago Mrs. Joyner suffered a broken hip, from which she never recovered. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Louisa Bracey Lankford of Isle of Wight County, and had been a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church since early girlhood. She was twice married, her first husband being Matthew B. Carr of Walters. Some years ago she married J.E.T. Joyner, also of the Walters community. Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. J.L. Duke and Mrs. James Bracey of Franklin and Mrs. David Gavin of Wallace, N.C.; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. W.H. West of Smithfield and Mrs. J.R. Howell of Franklin; three brothers, Jesse Lankford of Smithfield and James Paul Lankford and Tom Lankford of Carrsville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held from the Beaver Dam Baptist Church on Monday afternoon at two o’clock, the officiating minister being her pastor, Rev. Cecil Clifton, assisted by Rev. L.F. Paulette of Smithfield. Burial was in the family plot in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Nat Edwards, Johnnie Stephens, Curtis Rhodes, Melvin Spivey, Ryland Duck, Randall Vaughan, Reginald Vaughan and Garland Vaughan. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men’s Bible Class of Beaver Dam Church. ****************************************************************************** SARAH LANKFORD CARR JOYNER SARAH C. Mrs. Joyner, daughter of the late Jessie and Louise Bracey Joyner [sic; Lankford] of Isle of Wight County, was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. She was first married Matthew B. Carr, of Walters. Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. J.L. Duke and Mrs. James Bracey, of Franklin and Mrs. David Gavin, of Wallace, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. W.H. West of Smithfield, and Mrs. J.R.
