Surviving are: wife, Mrs. Docia May Jernigan; daughter, Miss Ethel L. Jernigan and son, George A. Jernigan, all of this city. Funeral March 21, at 1:45 p.m. from Peninsula Funeral Home. Interment in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery, Isle of Wight County. ************************************************ JAMES JERNIGAN JAMES JERNIGAN DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS, AGED 72 James Jernigan, 72, died yesterday at 1:30 p.m. at his home, 1041 Twenty- fifth Street, after an illness of a year. Mr. Jernigan had been a resident of this city for 44 years. He retired as a timekeeper in the plant of the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company after 32 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Docia May Jernigan, and a son, George A. Jernigan, all of this city. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:45 p.m., from the Peninsula Funeral Home, with the Rev. R. Lee House, pastor of the Congregational Christian Church, in charge. The deceased was a deacon in the Congregational Church and had long been active in church work. Burial will take place in Antioch Christian Church cemetery, Isle of Wight County. Active pallbearers will be R.L. Stringfield, J.J. Baker, W.R. Cole, R.C. Jarrett, T.G. Hyatt, and R.L. Baker. Burial services were held at Antioch Christian church Wednesday afternoon. His father was a Confederate veteran, having served 2 years as a private in 13th VA Reg. [Inf?], Co. I. James & Docia Mae BRADSHAW, daughter of George Thomas & Mary Virginia (BARRETT) BRADSHAW, m. 3 Feb 1891 in IoW.Co. (IoW.Co. M.Reg. 1891 P. 182 #14) His in-laws are also buried at Antioch.
