Finley, of Hanover, Mass., on state highway 460 near Kinser Kabins about eight miles from Suffolk. He died Friday afternoon at Lakeview Hospital. The little boy had been sent by his parents to Kinser Kabins for groceries and on returning he stepped behind a state road machine working on the highway almost in front of Kinser Kabins and emerged directly in front of Mrs. Finley's car, which was traveling towards Richmond. Mrs. Finley, witnesses said, almost wrecked her car trying to avoid striking the child. The boy sustained a broken right leg and internal injuries. He was rushed to Lakeview Hospital, where he died of his injuries. The accident was witnessed by M.F. Gilliam, operator of the road machine, who stated that it was unavoidable. Mrs. Finley, who has been visiting friends in Norfolk, and was enroute to her home in Massachusetts, was in a state of collapse over the tragedy. She was admitted to bail at first on a charge of reckless driving, which was later changed to involuntary manslaughter. She later gave bail for her appearance Wednesday morning before Judge J.F. Wilson of Isle of Wight. The accident was investigated by State Patrolman Burgess. The body was taken to the funeral home of I.O. Hill and Company, and was viewed by Coroner S. Edward Joyner. Besides his parents, the little victim is survived by a sister, Helen Jean Knight, his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Annie Griggs of Isle of Wight, and his parental grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dempsey Knight, of Chuckatuck. The body remained at the funeral home of I.O. Hill and Company until Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, when the funeral procession left for Antioch Christian Church cemetery, where services were held at the grave with the pastor, the Rev. H.E. Crutchfield, officiating.
