WINDER LANE ATTEND FUNERAL OF COL. WINDER LANE Mrs. John I. Cofer, John I. Cofer, Jr., Mrs. W.A. Baker, Mrs. Harry G. Dashield, James E. Jorden, Hunter Jordan, and A.S. Johnson attended funeral services for Col. L. Winder Lane at Burton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Friday morning, March 9. Colonel Lane, who was well known in Smithfield, is survived by his widow, the former Emily Byrd Wilson of Norfolk and the following children: L.W. Lane, 3rd, Mrs. Ashton Dovell, Mrs. Vernon M. Geddy, Miss Margaret Lane of Williamsburg, George J. and James E. Lane of Suffolk, and Mrs. W.K. Close of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. E.T. Lamb of Norfolk and Mrs. H.D. Cole of Williamsburg, ten grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Colonel Lane's first wife was Lizzie Jordan, daughter of Dr. George Hines Jordan of Smithfield. Col. Lane was published in "The Daily Press," Mar. 8, 1934. (NNPLS Daily Press Obituary Index) His D.Cert. (#7111) gives b. 1 Oct 1861. His marker, pictured with his Find a Grave Memorial (#85596226), shows Jr., b. 31 Aug 1861. His parents & both wives are buried there also. His first wife's parents are buried in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Smithfield.
