LAINE PASSES AWAY Prominent County Official Had Been In Failing Health For Several Months W.E. Laine, 54, treasurer of Isle of Wight County for 19 years, died Saturday at Buxton Hospital, Newport News, after a long illness. Mr. Laine has been in the hospital for treatment for pernicious anemia for several months, and his conduction for the past week had been growing worse. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Minnie Dunn; two sons, W.E. Laine, Jr. and E.R. Laine, three daughters, Misses Edith, Alice and Evelyn Laine; his father, E.W. Laine, of Suffolk, and older brother, E. Littleton Laine, also of Suffolk. He was the son of the late Mrs. Evelyn Laine, who died a few weeks ago. Mr. Laine had filled with credit and honor the office of treasurer of Isle of Wight County and was deputy treasurer prior to that time. He was a member of Woodland Methodist Church, in Isle of Wight County, where funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by the Rev. R.T. Clarke, with burial in the church cemetery. The services were attended by many prominent officials of the court, who were associated with Mr. Laine for many years. All Isle of Wight County officials acted as honorary pallbearers, together with friends and neighbors of the county. William Elliott LAINE, Isle of Wight Co.
