Bynum Lankford, 62, died last Saturday night at his home near Carrsville, having been in failing health for several years. Mr. Lankford was the son of the late Jesse and Louise Lankford of Isle of Wight County. Mr. Lankford is survived by his wife, Annie Bell Lankford; five sons, Ocie Lee and Herman H. Lankford of Norfolk, and Bernard, Edward and Clifton Lankford of Colosse; four daughters, Mrs. Vivian E. Gray of Norfolk, Mrs. Ray Oliver of Smithfield, Mrs. Clyde Vaughan of Franklin and Mrs. Archer Edwards of Windsor; three brothers, Paul and Tom Lankford, of Carrsville and Jesse Lankford of Hampton; four sisters, Mrs. Bettie West of Smithfield, Mrs. Sarah Joyner of Walters, Mrs. Jennie Carr of Norfolk and Mrs. J.R. Howell of Franklin, besides 10 grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and an uncle, Elihu Lankford of Carrsville. Services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock from Beaver Dam Baptist Church by the pastor, the Rev. J.T. Garland Moore, assisted by the Rev. R.M. Pleasants of Campostella Baptist Church, Norfolk. The choir of the church sang "Abide with Me" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," after which a quartette composed of Mrs. Guthrie Ballard, Mrs. Lofton Rhodes, John and Jim Avis of Colosse Baptist Church sang "Good Night and Good Morning." A pall of Ascension lilies and pink roses covered the casket, and there were many beautiful floral tributes. Pallbearers were John E. Beale, Nettie Bradshaw, Elvin Whitley, Randolph Rose, Clyde Hall, Johnnie Stevens, Elisha Duck and Tom Hall. Friends and neighbors served as honorary bearers.
