He was a native of Delta, Ohio, and had lived in Smithfield for the last 38 years. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and of its Wesley Bible Class. He was a veteran of World War I and attended Michigan State College. He was past master of Smithfield Union Lodge AF&AM, past deputy grandmaster, Grand Lodge of the Masons; past noble grand, Smithfield Lodge 269, I.O.O.F.; past chief patriarch, Damascus Encampment 1; past district deputy grand master, District No. 3, I.O.O.F.; past commander, George F. Dashiell Post 49, American Legion; past commander, Second District, American Legion. He was also a member of Smithfield Rebekah Lodge 61, Newport News Consistory, Scottish Rite; Smithfield Royal Arch Chapter 67, Khedive Temple of the Shrine of of Norfolk; Pagan River Barracks, Veterans of World War I, and was past patron of Smithfield Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. He was a son of Daniel O. and Mrs. Victoria Wilson Loomer. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruth Jones Loomer of Smithfield; one son, Elvin Cofer Loomer of Richmond; one sister, Mrs. Marvin Colvin of Canton, Ohio, and a brother, Glenn Loomer of Kingsly, Michigan. A funeral service was conducted at the Bullock Funeral Home Friday, November 18th, by the Rev. Clarence England, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church, and the Rev. Warren F. Taylor of Smithfield Baptist Church. Masonic rites were conducted at the grave in Battery Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Granville A. Starke, Robert W. Stallings Jr., Cecil W. Gwaltney, Looky Wilson, Joseph E. Bell, James A. Everett, Jr., J.B. Whitmore, and A.T. Hill. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Wesley Bible Class of the Trinity Methodist Church and the Smithfield Lodge 269, I.O.O.F.
