NELMS James Albert Nelms, 62, well-known citizen of Isle of Wight, died Thursday night after a brief illness. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Lela Holland Nelms; a daughter, Mrs. H.B. Dameron, of Baltimore; a son, J.A. Nelms, Jr., USN., and a granddaughter, Phyllis Dameron. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the funeral home of Roberts & Johnson, Smithfield, by the Rev. H.S. Southgate. The choir of the Methodist Church sang "Abide with Me." There were many floral tributes, and the casket was covered with a pall of white chrysanthemums. Active pallbearers were J.T. Robbins, Herbert Johnson, Lloyd Savage, R.R. Bowden, Trent Chapman, John I. Cofer, Jr., Marion Jones and B.O. Gwaltney. Honorary Pallbearers were: C.E. Warrington, C.A. Parker, J.E. Wilson, Dr. H.B. Dameron, Joseph Holloway, John W. Doggett, Fenton Holland, Robert Holland, Earl J. Bowen and M.E. Holland. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cmetery.
