NELMS, 87, BURIED FRI., APR. 18, AT CENTRAL HILL Matthew Thomas Nelms, 87, died April 16th at the home of his step-grandson R.D. Joyner in the Central Hill community. He was a lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County and oldest member of Central Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by a son Roger Nelms; a daughter, Mrs. Jessie Whitley; a stepdaughter, Mrs. J.B. Wyatt; a step-granddaughter Miss Mary Wyatt, and a step-grandson Robert D. Joyner, all of Central Hill community; two half- brothers, Lee Nelms, of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Bullock Funeral Home, Smithfield where funeral services were conducted Friday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. T.N. Tombes, pastor of the Central Hill Bapt. Church. Burial was in the family plot in the church cemetery.
