All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIE LEE NELMS Willie Lee Nelms, aged 73, a prominent salesman of this city for 39 years, died suddenly of a heart attack at his residence, 301 West Twenty-eight Street, yesterday morning at 5 o’clock. Mr. Nelms had been associated with the Hampton Roads Paper Company for 32 years, and prior to that was connected with the old wholesale tobacco firm of Todd & Schlegle. He was a native of Isle of Wight County and son of James Edward and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Darden Nelms. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Burton Nelms; three daughters, Mrs. G. Baylor Eichelberger, Mrs. Wilkins L. Williams, and Miss Virginia C. Nelms, Norfolk; two sons, Edward B. Nelms, Norfolk, and W.L. Nelms, Jr. Hampton; one brother, Clarence G. Nelms, Newport News; one sister, Mrs. J.F. Duke, Carrsville, and five grandchildren. Mr. Nelms was a deacon of the Knox Presbyterian Church, a member of Corinthian Lodge 266, A.F. and A.M., and Post B. Travelers Protective Association. The body will be taken from the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & Bro., 631 Westover Avenue, to the Knox Presbyterian Church for funeral services tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. The Rev. S. Hugh Bradley, pastor of the church; the Rev. W.H.T. Squires, D.D., former pastor of the church, and the Rev. Frank L. Wells, D.D., pastor of the Park Place Methodist Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery.
