He was a member of the Central Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Roxie Wills Nelms; two daughters, Mrs. Walter Holland of Windsor and Mrs. Jasper Holland of Zuni; one son, William Allen Nelms of Emporia; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and newphews. Funeral services were conducted at the Central Hill Baptist Church on Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin and Rev. Thomas Fryer. The choir sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and Mrs. L.H. Whitley and Mrs. Thomas Powellsang as a duet "In A Land Where We’ll Never Grow Old" Burial was in the church cemetery, the active pallbearers being Herbert, Linwood and Oliver Bradshaw, August Jenkins, Gurley Nelms, Thomas Nelms, Eugene Robertson and A.F. Wills, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Seward Men’s Bible Class.
