A.K. Lambdin, pastor of Wakefield Methodist church. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie J. Owney and four sons, Manalcus Bristow, of Norfolk; James Mayo, of Wakefield; John Benja. and Serena [sic; Sereno*] Carlton, of Portsmouth. Mr. Owney was a Confederate soldier in the War between the States, (1861- 1865). John Tyler OWNEY, retired wheelwright, Confederate veteran, b. OWNEY. John served as a private in Co. A, 18th Battalion VA Heavy Artillery. (Balfour, p. 93; not in regimental history {1st ed.}) His widow applied for a pension for his service 7 Oct 1929 in Sussex Co. It gives m. 23 Mar 1869 in Southampton Co. Rather, they m. 15 Mar 1869. (Southampton Co. Her D.Cert. 9606 (Portsmouth #196) gives bu. Southampton Co. Until the obit was found, she had been provisionally listed with her brother James Clark BRISTOW (1861 - 1932) in a BRISTOW family cemetery, on Unity Rd. at Appleton Rd.
