JOHN HENRY POPE 

   CARRSVILLE - Johnny Henry Pope, 76, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday at his home 
here.  He was the husband of Mrs. Lula Crowder Pope and the son of the late 
Samuel H. and Mrs. Fannie Dick Pope of Southampton County.

   Mr. Pope was a native of Newsoms and had been living in the Carrsville 
community 14 years.  He was a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church and 
of the Men's Bible Class.

   Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Hinton R. Pope, Eldridge J. 
Pope and James E. Pope, all of Carrsville, and Marvin B. Pope of Franklin; 
one brother, Charles B. Pope of Capron; one sister, Mrs. Jodie Stephenson, 
Capron, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

   A funeral service was held today (Thursday) at 2:30 p.m. in Beaver Dam 
Baptist Church by the pastor, the Rev. Edwin C. Thornton, Jr.  Burial was 
in the church cemetery.
