All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JAMES HENRY PITT James Henry Pitt, 78 [sic; 79*], of Isle of Wight County, died Wednesday July 15th, at his home near Smithfield after a brief illness. Mr. Pitt was the son of Nathaniel Newman Pitt, and Lavainia [sic; Lavinia] Baker Pitt, had was connected with some of the oldest and most prominent families of the county. He married Julia B. Channell almost fifty years ago, plans for the celebration of the golden wedding have been made. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Julia Channell Pitt, one daughter, Mrs. Paul Davis; a grandchild Marie Davis, a brother, J. Meader Pitt of Norfolk; a sister Mrs. E.K. Channell of Suffolk and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Pitt has been an active member of Whitehead Grove Baptist Chruch since early youth. Funeral services were held at his church Friday morning at 11 o’clock conducted by the Rev. T.W. Page. Burial was made in Wesley Chapel Cemetery of Chuckatuck. Active pallbearers were Percy G. Pitt, Franklin W. Pitt, James T., E.N., W.F., and H.H. Davis, J. Waverly Horne and J.V. Oliver.
