JOSEPHINE WELLS PEDEN 

   COLONIAL HEIGHTS - A funeral service for Mrs. Josephine Wells Peden was 
conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield by the Rev. 
E.G. Calhoun and the Rev. J.L. McTeer.  Burial was in Mill Swamp Church 
Cemetery near Ivor.

   Pallbearers were R.L. Gunn, Claud A. Nurney, Jordan Toone, Robert Watt, 
Sam Katchum, Leslie Crocker, Branford Stanley Jr., and Carol Barnes.

   Mrs. Peden, 73, died Friday night in a Petersburg hospital.

   A native of Isle of Wight County, she was a daughter of John M. and Mrs. 
Sarah Hargraves [sic; Hargrave] Wells and the widow of James F. Peden.  She 
was a member of Mill Swamp Baptist Church.

   She is survived by four sons, Archie W. Peden of Ivor, Benny F. Peden of 
Smithfield, and Andrew L. Peden and Marshall T. Peden of Colonial Heights; 
three daughters, Mrs. William G. Womack of Petersburg, Mrs. C.W. Scott of 
Colonial Heights and Mrs. R.C. Ritter of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. Irene W. 
Cross of Newport News and Mrs. Jack Davis of Hopewell; 37 grandchildren; and 
25 great grandchildren.
